Those complaining regarding portion size, value for money, food weight v profit, not enough chips! etc are very well catered with carveries,a miriad of average pile it high sell it cheap pubs/restaurants in derbyshire The Saracens,The Meynell,Chip shops etc stick to those. Dunscombe Arms thank god is of a quality wasted on many and for my money a bargain. Please dont change derbyshires standard needs dragging up.And if its to expensive dont go
I agree Glyn. One wonders what will happen when the novelty value has worn off. I would just be interested to weight the amount of of food served in any one evening in relation to the money they have taken from customers. Must be unreasonable profit levels and not value for money at all.
We have a lot to learn from the French who always place greater value on food portions and quality than the surroundings..!
To be fair the other reviews are quite correct regarding the Duncombe Arms ,nice setting, tastefull refurbishment, great food.....but portions are very small
We went as a family last week and have to say we were thrilled, beautifully cooked food, excellent presentation and a high quality of care throughout the meal.
We had all three courses and wine and it came in at just under £150 which I think is fantastic value and sets this quality restaurant as a must dine place in the local area.
that fact that the car park is full every time I drive past and we had to book is proof of that.
I have just booked their private dining option for a family party in June, will definitely be back again soon.
Very nicely refurbished. But the food is very expensive and the portions are tiny. Wouldn't mind but what few chips I had with my steak were soggy. My wife's pork hadn't been cooked long enough with very poor crackling and a huge layer of extremely gelatinous fat that hadn't been rendered down. Not seasoned well.
Hopefully these are just initial teething bugs that will be sorted out but if not I cant see us returning very often.
Just returned from the Duncombe Arms...Hungry! Beautiful pub but taking the michael really. Very expensive and very sparse portions...indeed. I could count my chips on one hand. As to the Manageress....well she asks for feedback and then treats you like dirt when you state that a few vegetables oiught to be oincluded in the price ...which is not cheap by any means. Would recomend the Saracens Head at Shirley....much better value!...and staff..!
We've eaten a meal twice now and both times were a pleasure and a real treat. Beautifully refurbished to a very high standard. Very welcoming. Congratulations Duncombe Arms -we'll be back.
Just re-opened on 14 March 2012 after a total refurb, having been shut for 2 years. A former Enterprise Inn, now a free house, with 3 real ales on. It's a village inn/gastropub. Let's see how it settles down after a while.
It looks amazing on the outside, cannot believe how it has been transformed from how it was before into a very nice villiage pub. cant wait to see the inside!
