• Our visitors from France were looking for souvenirs so we took them to Strickland and Holt in Yarm on Sept 24th 2013. I wish we hadn't. They bought what they thought were two place mats, but which they later realised were just laminated (and in my view overpriced) prints. I offered to return them and request a refund as they don't speak English, which I did on Sept 26th. The assistant, and then the Manager, insisted that only a credit note could be given, even when I told them that our friends were returning to France two days later (Sat 28th Sept) and that a credit note was no good to them. When it became obvious that common sense was not going to prevail and that the Manager was sticking to the "No refund if it isn't faulty" policy at all costs, I accepted the credit note and refunded our friends myself. When I have used the credit note at Strickland and Holt it will be the last time I visit the shop. They may have upheld their policy, but they have lost a customer and I won't be recommending anyone else to shop there in future.
