• We were looking for somewhere to have dinner on a long drive home, saw the sign for The Smelters Arms and dropped in hoping for a reasonable meal. We got better than reasonable. Huge portions, freshly cooked food with home made chips. Excellent pub grub, every morsel of which was value for money. For three main courses from the 'specials' board the bill came to just under £15 as two of them fell into their 2 meals for £8.95 deal. Staff were friendly and efficient. Not 'fine dining' by any means but good basic pub food well done.

• food is excellent when i first went in april. owners and staff were pleasant and helpfull. very clean and plenty of food.

• very very basic low quality of food, we travelled 20 miles to this pub as heard it was nice, would not visit again.unfriendly, unprofessional young staff. never even gave us any cutlery to eat with. was supposed to be mushy peas with our sunday lunch... they were out of a tin?fetched a high chair for us to sit our 1 year old son in and it was discusting. had to use my packet of baby wipes to clean it up before i would allow my son to sit in it. we ordered beef diner and in the gravy segments of chicken? what on earth that was about i'll never know. Asked to speak to boss/owner and wasnt helpful at all.. my husband works extreamally hard during the week and on a weekend we like to dine out for 'family' time.. was very very dissapointed with this pub.
