• Disappointed. Pricey for what was served and menu very limited.service very slow and staff passing hot food and coffee etc.over diners to get to other diners - an accident waiting to happen. Will not be paying any more visits to this restaurant.awful.

• A warm, welcoming atmosphere is just one reason for visiting The Ship Inn, if you are in the area this really is well worth a visit. A small pub and restaurant in a lovely location on the north bank of the River Forth, the publican keeps a good selection of well kept local & guest beers. The Chef d'cuisine seems to be the owner and this is definitely reflected in the high quality of the food served. I was there for lunch in a party of 4 and everything we had was top quality produce, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Lunch for us worked out just under £20 per skull, good value in my opinion. Only down side for we tall people is that the tables are very low and it's difficult to get the knees under! The menu has a very local theme, which is great as it's nice to try something different. I found that the local potted meat starter, Haugh (but pronounced Hock in a gutteral manner for the English speakers!) was very well flavoured but, for my palate, was perhaps a little too smooth in texture; the locals in our party thought that it should have been more robust and I was expecting something closer to the texture of the French Rillettes The fish and chips with mushy peas was just perfect. Fresh, moist haddock in a thin, dry, crispy batter; the fish did not die in vain! Chips were crisp on the outside with a wonderful fluffy interior and the mushy peas just the right consistency. For dessert, the Clootie Dumpling is an absolute must to try. It's a sort of steamed fruit pudding with cinamon and other spices, it's much better than I've described it! Finally, that essential element of any good restaurant – the front of house staff. I found them to be welcoming, courteous, efficient and extremely helpful.
