• I have lived in this area for years. I have known this restaurant through it's many faces (Little Chef, Pickles, Shaplan and Shampan)After Shaplan closed down and this place re-branded as Shampan the quality and standard was pretty high. The atmosphere was good, the staff where friendly and attentive and the food was nice and fairly priced.Over the last year or so it has become obvious that this place is struggling financially. Not surprising given that it is almost always empty.Tonight I am sad to say I have eaten here for the last time. I'll go to the Naya in Henley High St. (or the Arden Tandoori or curry nation) instead. They are cheaper the food is light years better (I could go on)Of late I have noticed that the food isn't exactly as fresh as it used to be. Tonight my step son ordered a King Prawn biryani and when it arrived at the table the whole restaurant filled with the smell of really rancid fish. We sent it back.If that had been a one off, to be honest I would maybe (just maybe) cut them some slack based on how good they used to be (and because I live close enough to walk here); but it wasn't.We've had black and soggy Okra, nan bread that was obviously not as fresh as it should be, flat beer (actually it's always flat so that's not new) The lemonade regularly gets sent back because it's just soda water. Cold food is a feature of the menu etc etcHere's a fun game. Go there with 3 or more people and order different chicken dishes. Notice how ALWAYS at least 2 of them are the same dish... Actually, scrub that. Don't go there, ever it's terrible. Send people you don't like there whilst you drive past into Henley and have a decent meal.
