• If you have ever seen the 1980's film 'Local Hero' and you enjoyed it then you will enjoy Portknockie and its Seafield Inn, I did when visiting in the summer of 2012. It may not be the Ritz but it's full of character...or should I say characters! If you get there on a busy night (my visit was a Friday) you may get lucky with some of the local punters who range from fishermen, offshore workers and lifeguards, most with cracking stories to amuse you over a pint or few. The owner, Alan Sleith, is the main character and his open friendliness will make you fee you know everyone in the village instantly. All are welcome...including the parrot who occasionally visits...but that's another story!
