• AWFUL!!! After being at the red lion many times before and thoroughly enjoying it, we decided to go there for lunch yesterday (sunday 2nd march). We ordered our 4 meals and 3 sides at 14.38, as we got told there was going to be a 20min-30min delay on food the children wanted to play the wacky racers game on the kids menu like it said we asked the staff at the bar for dice and counters but they had none! At 15.15 ish the children had had enough of playing the game and they were starving!! I went to the bar to ask about how long the food would be to which the bar man said he told me there was an hour wait on food when I ordered!! he didn't!! other people seemed to be getting free drinks I was not offered these when I ordered more! I then saw that other children had colouring sheets I enquired about them and got told there wasn't any left! (there was!!). I then took the children to the play barn until the meal arrived at approximately 16.30! we were having lunch not tea! It was AWFUL how can anybody go wrong with sausage and mash with gravy, instant lumpy potato with cold gravy all over the food with a skin must of been sat the whole time we were waiting! the batter on a child's fish and chips was like a wet paper bag! I also didn't receive one of the sides (waffles with cheese) didn't bother saying anything as the children go to bed at 6pm, and didn't know how long they would take! When we got our food I asked the waitress should i order deserts now and she said no desserts are coming straight out. so when the children had finished I ordered deserts at the bar and got told there was a 20 min wait on them (NOT AGAIN!) took the children back down to the play barn AGAIN for a 40 min play! funny 20 minutes! when we got back to the table one of the children's drinks had been cleared when it was still full. i asked one the waitresses about it who got another member of staff who then said i will go and get the manager i didn't need a manager i just wanted the drink back! we then received a new drink! we asked for a spoon and plate for a sharer desert which then got taken to the table next to us, the plate was red hot, my main plate wasn't even that hot! as we come here quite regular because of the location food and play area this was a huge disappointment, not sure that we will return.
