  • 5 star reviewJust been to the Railway Inn for lunch and felt I had to leave my findings to put an end to all the negative reviews. We were just expecting a normal carvery but this was so much more! Had a choice of home made steak and pototato pie, steak and Guiness casserole, braised liver, mince pie, pork casserole, not to mention the usual joints of Beef, Gammon and Turkey. The choice of vegetables was also very good (and cooked to perfection - not rock hard like you will find in some restaurants.) The service was excellent, as was the price - overall a very pleasant experience and one that we will be certain to partake of again in the future.

  • 1 star reviewhave been to the Railway numerous times and have really enjoyed the carvery. Last night Monday 21st may my wife took me for a birthday treat. What a disapointment. The food was excellent, but the staff were much to be desired. We felt as though we were being watched all the time. We arrived at about 5.20, the staff kept walking past our table as if they were rushing us to finish our meal. As there were only about six other customers in at the time it was not as thhough they needed the table. I still had quite a lot of my meal on my plate and put down my knife and fork to have a drink. That was when the barmaid came across and asked if i had finished, needless to say i had not. When we finally finished our meals the plates were quickly removed from the table. Then the staff kept on walking past our table watching our glasses. We found the behaviour of the staff very off putting. It will be a very long time until we visit the Railway again. We felt most uncomfortable.

  • 1 star reviewVery cramped seating. Cold plates. Overcooked badly carved beef. Poor disabled access. Won't bother going again! Overpriced @ £8.95 for main course.

  • 1 star reviewCWednesday 1st feb 2012, the 4 of us decided on carvery my dad and I had steak pie which was burnt my mum had shepeards pie with lumps of gristle in and my wife had turkey of which she could hardly cut through, very fatty. We was told to to take care when handed our plate as they were very hot, they were barely warm. We were asked by the dark haired European member of staff , not the one on the carvery was most rude xand sarcastic to us when collecting our plates. It was freezing cold we had to keep our coats on, plenty of fires around only to see them full of pictures.

  • 5 star reviewWe visited on the 22nd November 2011. All I can say to Mr S Parker is REVISIT!!! The Pub has undergone a refurbishment, the staff gave us a warm and friendly welcome and the manager was also welcoming only to happy to explain how there new carvery works (believe me its like no other carvery I have visited) yes it had roasted meats but also you got to choose from pies, stews and homemade specials then the choice of fresh vegetables is just to long to list!!!! Believe me when I say it has changed for the better
