• Had a number of issues throughout our tenancy which Paul didn’t help with. Our main was the gas metre. Our gas metre was broke and wouldn’t show gas readings when we moved in, we eventually got EDF to come and install a smart metre but they were unable to as the gas metre was in a very small cupboard and we were advised it wouldn’t be safe to remove and install a new gas metre. We told Paul about this but he was unwilling to do anything about it as it would have resulted in dismantling a small part of the kitchen. Therefore, we were paying outrageous estimated bills with EDF, Paul didn’t care. We also mentioned to Paul that the wooden frame on our back patio door was basically rotting away. Nothing was done about this. On move out, myself and my partner scrubbed the house from top to bottom. This still wasn’t good enough for Paul, Paul complained of dust. He also complained that some weeds and a couple of bushes had overgrown (we moved out in winter), we tried to explain that we keep the garden immaculate in the summer (gardening months) but Paul didn’t care. Paul quoted £125 from his own gardener to pull some weeds and trim some bushes, we didn’t agree with the quote and I asked could we do it ourselves, he told us we had our chance and wouldn’t even consider it. He ended up taking £145 from our deposit (£20 for dust). It was Christmas when we moved out so we couldn’t afford to argue with the DPS. Wish I’d have seen the other bad reviews before we rented from Paul as it seems as though he will find anything to take money from tenants deposits. Paul had always been quite condescending throughout our tenancy, however once we handed our notice in, we seen a nasty side of Paul and it seemed he was very determined to take some of our deposit. Wouldn’t recommend Paul James Lettings to anybody!
