• I would advise people not to trust Moorland Self Drive with any credit/debit card details. I paid up front on my partner's behalf when he hired a van from Moorland Self Drive. I did not drive or sign any paperwork for this van for myself but my debit card was used to pay the up front full hire charge. The van itself came with a faulty tail lift causing aggro for most of the 7 days we hired and the key broke off in the ignition has it had clearly been previously abused. We were not given a copy of the contract nor pre hire vehicle inspection report which significantly underestimated the condition of the vehicle, there were far more dings, scratches etc than the report suggested. You are, however, expected to sign their interpretation of the vehicle condition before being allowed to drive off the van as if you are some qualified AA mechanic. This is where you are clearly vulnerable as it it leaves it wide open as to what 'fresh' dings and scratches have been added during your hire and the enforced application of a whopping £750 insurance excess far greater than the van hire charge! The van came with no fuel and we returned it with over £60 of fuel (less runs than anticipated) but were offered no compensation, "you are supposed to bring it back with the same fuel as you took it" (as if, what are you supposed to do, siphon it out?). We reported the broken key when we returned the van only to be addressed by the proprietor as if we were naughty school children as if it was our fault it broke! We also reported the fact the the nearside door mirror had been clipped by someone in a McDonald's car park but were met with indifference by the owner's son. A day after we returned the vehicle my debit card was charged by Moorland Self Drive for £750 without notification, any paperwork, not even a telephone call! All done without me entering my PIN. I cannot recommend any company I cannot trust and I certainly do not trust Moorland Self Drive.
