• I purchased a buy to let flat in 2012. I contacted LPS Lettings using their website to ask Lindsey Lancaster for advice. They offered a full “turnkey renovation” service for landlords alongside property lettings and management. She arranged for Matthew Lancaster, her husband, to visit. He provided me with a quotation of £42,000 for renovations. I paid LPS a total of £42,000, including, reluctantly, £12,000 in advance, for renovations to my flat. The flat was left without a kitchen, doors, bath, or shower; undecorated and with significant work, including electrics, incomplete and uncertified. The work that was done has subsequently proved, in spite of Matthew Lancaster’s assurances that he knew about the requirements for listed building planning regulations, to not comply. I will need to pay for significant remedial work to sort this out. Requests for insurance details to allow me to claim for negligence have been ignored. I am not able to let the flat in its current state and would not be able to recover the amounts I have spent on the flat if I sold.
