• We love the pub and the location is pleasant. The freshly cooked food is very good and value for money, provided one makes careful menu choice. There’s a good range of proper beer to enjoy (if not driving!). Unfortunately, on our last visit, which was only our second time, there was a misunderstanding ordering a ‘blackboard specials’ item. My wife asked if scallops on a bed of spinach with cheese sauce could possibly come without the cheese sauce. The chef readily agreed this could be done. However, the dish arrived covered with a substituted white sauce which was not wanted. This was fair enough as a mistaken understanding, except that the chef argued over the matter such that we as customers felt uncomfortable over our meal. My wife removed as much of the unwelcome sauce as she could before eating it and we ended up paying the full bill requested. The ‘customer is right’ ethos does not seem to apply at this establishment. We may not come back, which would be a great shame, as there a many very good things about the pub.
