• My partner and I decided to eat at Il Forno when we didn't want to cook one night. We booked the table for 8:30 and on arrival we were sat at the bar and given a drink. The decor was in need of updating. After 45 minutes waiting we were seated at our table having had our order taken at the bar. We were surprised and a bit put out to discover that the restaurant was half empty. I ordered the Caprese and my partner ordered the salmon tartare. I was served my caprese which was a disappointment: shredded lettuce on the bottom with no more than three slices of poor quality tomato and cheap mozzarella and on top of that red pesto dolloped on. I have been to the best of Italy and this is not anyone's idea of caprese! My partner was served their dish which was wrong and rather than take the dish away and correct the mistake immediately the waitress (and owner) decided to argue the point which did not impress either. What also made us uncomfortable was how the waitress was treated by the owner-not in a courteous manner. Eventually the dish arrived and did not look appetising. The "tartare" was a fish pate/mousse that did not resemble the menu description at all and was accompanied by danish toast. Not a good first course. The main course arrived-Pollo Parmigiana with veg sold separately and Sea Bass and salad (!). The main courses were edible but not great. The bill when it arrived was a bit of a shock considering the overall experience. It didnt represent good value. We were disappointed as we are keen to support local businesses. If you are expecting a genuine italian experience avoid this restaurant.
