• I would not recommend making an online purchase of any vintage items from the Holloways website based on my experience. I made a complaint to Holloways of Worcester about the condition of a vintage garden bench I purchased online after discovering extensive damage to sections of the wood and serious rusting on some of the metal areas resulting in erosion of parts of the metal. There was no indication of this damage on the photograph published on the website and I also felt that I was seriously misled by Edward Holloway on the phone who reassured me the bench was made of 'good quality hard wood that would not rot' and might just require ‘painting at some stage.’ The condition of the bench is so serious it requires immediate attention to prevent further damage. However, I was very disappointed and offended by Edward Holloway’s response to my emails requesting a contribution towards the repair work required. Initially, I received (in error) an internal email intended for a colleague saying Mr Holloway was 'struggling not to write a very sarcastic reply'. This was followed by a seemingly offhand apology and accusations that I had 'materially altered the bench’ and refusal to accept my complaint as I had 'scraped the paint or whatever it is that you have done.’ My two follow-up emails were not even acknowledged and I have been left with an impression of an organisation that has scant regard for its customers and has an attitude towards complaint handling that seems high handed and insensitive.
