  • 1 star reviewWe arrived at the park on a sunny Monday afternoon at the end of May,2 adults (35-36) and 2 kids (3 and 14) but we were not able to check in until 3pm (not a problem) so we had a stroll over to the beach. On the way over we passed a groups of kids between the ages of probably 8-12 with BB guns. They were firing them at caravans and various objects, you could hear the pellets ricocheting of the vans great start to the holiday, we're on a dodgy council estate...!! ( found out later they were selling the BB guns on the site shop...) Nearer the beach were some other caravan sites but these were surrounded with huge metal railings with spikes on top, the kind of thing you see around prisons...really made the place look appealing!! (this is nothing to do with Golden Palm but it just gives you an idea of the area). The beach was lovely, looked well kept with plenty of space for kids to run around but spoiled by a bunch of chavs who just dropped their litter, cans and crisp packets, while we were there. On getting the keys we made our way round to the caravan which looked pretty new and well kept on the outside. Walking round to the entrance to the van your confronted with the side of the water complex which looks like a huge industrial unit. Not the best of views. As we entered the caravan it was plain to see that it hadn't been vacuumed or had any polish in a good while, I thought about going to speak to reception but remembered the huge queue we had just left. Inside the caravan were a couple of dangerous looking carpet grippers with the screws used to hold them down sticking up quite a bit, enough to take a nice chunk out of your foot if you caught it. 2 as you go from the living area to the kitchen and 2 from the living area to the bedrooms. Again I thought about mentioning it but after looking at the screws I saw they were totally rounded off as if someone had already tried. So I go a pair of pliers I had in a tool kit and pulled them out myself, job done and the gripper was still holding the carpet securely. We had a walk to the kids play area on the main side and were surrounded by loud swearing kids who were booting footballs around, not worrying about the little ones in there. So when a football came in my directions I banged it out of the playground. I got a lot of dirty looks but no more footballs... ;) . We decided to go to another play area on the other side of the camp which we had seen as we were walking to the the beach. Can I just say at this point I've never felt as sick as when I took my 3yr old into the "Tree slide". The smell of urine was so strong I thought there was a broken sewer pipe....If any management of the Golden Palms are reading this, take a walk over there, the park just past the Maid Marian Pub and spend 30 seconds inside the "Tree". You should do something about it as its disgusting. Talking about the park, it's used on the cover of the promotional brochure your given when you get there and its downloadable off their website, the picture on the front shows kids on the equipment, right next to a load of graffiti...whoever signed that off needs talking to, terrible advertisement as are the rubbish pictures inside..anyway I digress.. Over the 4 days we had dull, windy weather which didn't help us to "enjoy" the park. The only saving grace was the water complex. The staff inside were friendly and helpful and the food and drinks were well priced, the kids loved the water slides and the queues were small and fast moving. However...the water was not warm at all, I heard a few people mention this when ever we were in there, sort out the water temp and you'd have a perfect swimming pool area. We visited Skegness one of the days and had a brilliant few hours at the Natureland Seal Sanctuary which is situated on the seafront. Overall this short break was a huge let down, possibly if the weather had been better we could of spent all our time on the beach or out exploring but the weather was dismal, this is where Golden Palm (why "Golden Palm" as a name?) lets its self down, all it has is its pool complex and an amusement arcade which had annoying bingo from 1pm everyday blasted out of speakers outside the building....why? I couldn't give a toss if you have a full house..I've just had to endure a chavvy family (there are a lot...and I mean alot) shouting and swearing at each other because they couldn't get any chips.....!! I would like to say on a positive note (!) that all the staff were friendly and seemed happy, I would not recommend this as a place to stay even though we got this through a Sun Holiday. We have been on lots over the years in all weathers and this was by far the worse. If we apply next year and get this place again I'd forfeit the money and stay at home, I was that disappointed.

  • 2 star reviewWas going to come here for 2 weeks in summer, glad we did a short break first. The site itself is really good, plenty of different takeaways, a good size pool and arcade, and our caravan was exellent. However the club is VERY child unfriendly. Childrens seating is segragated from main club and children aren't allowed on the very small dance floor. Seating in the childrens side is cramped and very uncomfortable, seating in the adult section is like an old fashioned bingo hall. Over 4 nights with 2 artist a night all we heard where old fashioned singing got sick of hearing neil diamond. they have no disco just karaoke artists kids got bored every night so ended up going across road to the pub which was much better. definatly won't be coming here again
