• Regardless of your beef with the doorman, an nus card is not a valid proof of age,that is why the council provide the validate cards with the pass logo to those that apply. Under the new management this place is packed out most weekends and prices are general to everywhere - prices will increase granted but they don't take the mick. The doormen have a stamp out policy on the drug issue previously there after speaking to one of them. Jane let it go before - great business women but obviously there were issues. I would recommend this pub but then all my mates come here already lol. Steve and Zoe are doing a great job!

• Since Landlady Jane Henderson has departed from the Public House the atmosphere has changed. The Owner has changed, the layout has changed massively, staff have changed and there is now an unpleasant atmosphere present. Even though there were CCTV Cameras installed while Jane Henderson was still Landlady. There have never been any Door staff, despite the Barmen and barmaids trained to throw people out as well as serve alcohol. I do not see the business lasting, well I am hoping it will fail anyway. I was asked ID by a Door man at this Pub on Saturday night 26th May 2012. I showed my student NUS card which clearly has my date of birth, it has my full name, and photo on the back of the card. However, the Doorman started to become awkward, and rude. He was absolutely useless in his job. The doorman could have easily allowed me entry as he could see I was above age from my NUS card. I handed my date of birth too to show it was 100% myself. Many places accept NUS cards. But because it was not the actual driving license or passport I was then refused entry, the manner was done sly and rude. I fully explained that I had lost my driving license and the person with me also verified I was of legal age. The doorman was just being nasty. At the end of the day he had the power and authority, and some use it too much for their advantage, and have the pleasure of being bossy. I was shocked how bad and weak this doorman was in his job. I didn't argue, but I will never return the Golden Lion again. Prices of the alcohol in this place has increased quite a bit. They will not be having my custom again, and they will not be having my money either.
