• I can not understand the other reviews. We spent our final holiday day at Scarbrough and then set off back at teatime. We like to stop at random pubs and take a chance and this was a delight we will return to. I approached the bar and asked if children where allowed and and reserved a smile and was told all the paces we could sit. My children 'boys 12 and 9' went for the snug I don't think they knew what it was. There was fabulous old photographs on the walls including an interesting one of a lorry with hay bails on fire. The staff where friendly and attentive. The food was in large amounts especially considering the price. The £6 pizza was so big we took half home and the 12 year old said it was the nicest pizza he'd had. My 9 year old had a children's meal of cheese burger and chips large and juice with lovely Crispy homemade chips that we all kept pinching. My partner had co-chair which he said was nice but needed less salads and a wedge of lemon. I had belly pork with Apple mash. I have had better, but it was nice and I would have it again. After we had eaten we sent the children to the toilet. Instead they pestered the landlady asking for a box for the leftover pizza. Again this was greeted with a smile and a box. I went to use the facility's and when I got back the the landlady had given then both a packet of harrybows. :) fad.

• Surely a small pub on a main tourist route would welcome passing trade? Obviously not. Rude and abrasive service did not make us and our young family feel welcome at all. Obviously a local pub for local people. Major facelift needed to interior and food just passable.

• not very friendly dark in bar and snugg area over inflated prices for food and drink

• new owners since last visit missed all the cats !food good reasonable price service a bit slow as we were only customers. no complaints would goo again good choice of menu including rabbit etc.
